Book Review: Heart Bones by Colleen Hoover

Anyone who has read CoHo’s books knows that she is a master story teller and this book is no different. It’s a beautifully woven tale of struggle, loss, heartache and yes, love with an addictive prose that makes it impossible to put down.

Beyah has had a hard life. In her nineteen years of life, she has been through a lifetime of struggles. With a drug addict mother and an absentee father, she never really was a child. When addiction finally catches up with her mother, she moves from Kentucky to a beautiful beach house in Texas for the summer with her father and his new wife and a step sister, Sarah, whom she knew nothing about. There she meets her neighbor, Samson.

Damaged people recognize other damaged people. It's like a club you don't want membership to.

Beyah and Samson, come from different worlds but they both are alike in the saddest of ways. While both of them hoard secrets and wall their hearts, Beyah can’t help but want Samson to really know everything about her and once she gets to know little pieces about him, she can’t help but fall in love with him.

"What fills the holes in a soul?" Samson's eyes scroll over my face for a few seconds. "Pieces of someone else's soul."

Both Beyah and Samson are so broken, that their journey together towards healing is heartbreaking at times. Beyah is a really strong, loyal, and a determined soul. There are moments in the books when she shows kindness in ways that had reduced me to tears. With two interesting characters, beautiful prose, secrets you won’t see coming and a stunning love story, this book is a must read.

"Heart has no bones."
"But if there is nothing inside a heart that can break, why does it feel like mine is going to snap in half when it's time for me to move next month? Does you heart not feel like that?"
"Yeah, It does. Maybe we both grew heart bones."

Call me weird but I love books that make me think and make me cry. This books did both in spades. If you are looking for a cathartic read, ready to go on an emotional roller coaster, then this is a definite read.

If you have read this already, do let me know how you liked it…
